What is Lavender Oil?

Lavender Essential Oil is made by taking the flowering buds of of the lavender shrub (part of the mint family), and extracting the oils through a process called steam distillation.

It has been used for many centuries, dating back to over 2500 years ago in the Mediterranean, Middle East and India. The Romans named it 'larvare', which means 'to wash' as they used Lavender oil to scent their baths, clothes, beds, and hair. They also discovered its medicinal properties as well.

What are the benefits of Lavender Oil?

It heals wounds

Lavender Oil has shown to heal cuts and scrapes as much as 10 times quicker than what the human body can naturally heal. But do be careful of adding this oil to any open wounds as it can cause a burning sensation. A little goes a long ways.

It soothes and balances skin

It depends on the type of lavender shrub that is extracted to make the oil, however, most lavender essential oils are made up mostly of linalyl acetate and linalool. According to the US National Library of Medicine, these two chemicals have been proven to be anti-inflammatory. Lavender Oil can penetrate deep into the layers of your skin to balance oil production and reduce inflammation from blemishes or acne. And that natural healing property can aid in any acne scars as well.

It calms us

We've all heard that lavender oil can help calm the mind and act as a sleep aid. Well, it's true, according to a study done between Lavender Oil and the affects on the nervous system. The results of the study was that lavender oil reduces anxiety and depression.

There are so many other benefits to using lavender oil, but we thought these were a big 3 that we wanted to talk about.
